Most vehicles in New Jersey must be inspected for emissions every two years, though there are notable exceptions to that rule. Some vehicles, including ambulances, hotel buses, taxicabs and limos must be inspected annually. Others, including gas-powered passenger cars that are model year 1995 or older and weigh 8,500 pounds or less, don’t have to be emission tested at all. Owners of vehicles that do need to be inspected have two options: they can have this service performed at a state-owned or privately owned NJ certified emissions repair facility. After you vehicle is five years old, Every two years in New Jersey you have your car inspected. So, what are your options? You can either go to the State Inspection Stations lanes, which in our case is in Newton. Or you have the option of visiting a local shop and there is usually a fee along with it. Local shops however can do exactly the same thing as the state lanes do! And, it’s probably more convenient if you don’t live close to the State Lanes and don't want to wait on long lines. Also with the new changes coming in May of 2016, you will only be able to get your failed vehicle re-inspected at a private inspection facility. Keep in mind however, that you are supporting a local shop which is probably supporting your local community. Sure there's a fee that comes along with it, but keep in the back of your mind “Shop Local, Buy Local”. By getting your inspection done at DeBoers Auto, your supporting our local community. There are many amazing things about living in New Jersey. We have the most dynamic big cities and small towns, scenic mountains and gorgeous beaches, and amazing dining, entertainment and cultural opportunities. One other thing we have are leaders who are serious about enhancing everyone’s quality of life with rules aimed at reducing pollution. One such rule is most vehicles licensed in New Jersey are required to pass an emissions test every two years. Vehicles that don’t pass inspection must undergo emission repair until they do pass.

Just like you are required to pay taxes, if you own a car in New Jersey, you are required to have your car inspected every two years. Soon, however, some vehicle categories will be exempt from inspections. You probably comply with this requirement so the police will not issue you a ticket.
