Part 1: Rethinking Car Ownership: From Expense to Investment –
Introducing Cost Per Mile
In today's economy, owning a vehicle is often viewed as a necessary but burdensome expense. It feels like you're constantly paying out money—from the loan payment to the gas pump to the occasional surprise repair bill. However, at DeBoer's Auto, we encourage a paradigm shift: think of your car not in terms of those sporadic bills, but as an investment measured by Cost Per Mile (CPM).
This metric—total ownership costs divided by the miles you drive—provides a much more accurate picture of how affordable your car truly is. It helps you maximize its value over its entire lifespan.

Recently, Mount Olive High School opened its doors to a few hundred high school juniors and seniors from across New Jersey for the Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Fair. The energy was light but full of purpose — students mingling, asking questions, and exploring possibilities for their future. Some weren’t quite sure where they wanted to go after graduation, while others had a clear plan and were eager to take their next step. Either way, everyone came ready to learn.

The Importance of Hands-On Training in the Automotive Industry
In today’s fast-paced automotive industry, theoretical knowledge alone is not enough to excel. Hands-on training is crucial for automotive technicians who want to stay ahead in their careers. Engaging directly with the tools, technologies, and real-world problems you'll face daily provides a deeper understanding that books and lectures simply can't offer. Hands-on training allows technicians to apply what they've learned in a controlled environment, gaining practical skills that are immediately transferable to the workplace. This type of experiential learning can significantly shorten the learning curve and increase job readiness.

Let’s be honest—no one wakes up excited about unexpected car repairs. They always seem to happen at the worst possible time, adding stress to your schedule, your plans, and of course… your budget. At DeBoer’s, we understand that keeping your vehicle safe and reliable shouldn’t leave you feeling overwhelmed. That’s exactly why we’ve teamed up with Dignifi, our newest financing partner, to make the repair process easier, smoother, and far more manageable.

I’ve known Dave Thomas "DT" since high school. Over the years I’ve watched him grow into someone who’s deeply committed to giving back to the community. When DT attended a Big Fish Foundation event in 2021, he returned with a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of veterans. That experience inspired him to create the DT Hold Fast Row, a fundraising event that combines fitness, teamwork, and community impact to support the Big Fish Foundation.
The Big Fish Foundation is a veteran nonprofit that reconnects veterans after service. One of the biggest challenges veterans face is losing touch with the people they served alongside for years. DT understood this struggle personally, and the Hold Fast Row was his way of turning passion into action, reconnecting veterans, and building a community of support.
What “Hold Fast” Means
For DT, “Hold Fast” is more than a motto—it’s a principle that guides his life. It reminds him to stay committed to relationships and friendships, including the ones formed at Big Fish Foundation events, and to create opportunities for other veterans to stay connected as well.
That philosophy is at the heart of this event. It’s about holding fast to family, friends, and community, while fostering networks that strengthen the veteran community. The DT Hold Fast Row isn’t just a physical challenge—it’s a way to build meaningful relationships and raise awareness for a cause that makes a real difference.
