If you don’t, you’re not alone. Many vehicle owners have never heard of a cabin air filter, and if they have, they don’t always know where it’s located or what its purpose is. The truth is it’s a very important part of your vehicle and helps ensure you breathe clean air while you’re driving. Here’s what you need to know about your cabin air filter. ### **What Does A Cabin Air Filter Do?** Your cabin air filter sits inside your HVAC system in your vehicle and filters the air you breathe in your vehicle. When you’re driving down the road with the heater or A/C going full blast, the air hitting you in the face might be dirty if you haven’t changed your cabin air filter in a while. Not only does a fresh cabin air filter potentially make the air in your vehicle smell better, but it also prevents pollen, dust, and other particles from entering your vehicle. And if you have a sick person riding with you in the vehicle, those germs can be filtered as well. ### **When Should You Change Your Cabin Air Filter?** ![Your cabin air filter needs attention too!](https://www.deboersauto.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog%202012022%20-%20Remember%20Your%20Cabin%20Air%20Filter%20During%20Routine%20Maintenance%20Checks.jpeg?width=300&name=Blog%202012022%20-%20Remember%20Your%20Cabin%20Air%20Filter%20During%20Routine%20Maintenance%20Checks.jpeg)You should inspect your cabin air filter at least once every year, but sometimes it may need to be done more frequently depending on environmental conditions. Every time you bring your vehicle for an oil change at DeBoer’s Auto, we will inspect your [cabin air filter](https://www.deboersauto.com/blog/clean-your-vehicles-a/c-system-for-a-fresh-smell) to ensure you’re breathing clean air while driving. It’s quick and easy to replace if needed and the quality of the air you breathe is well worth staying on top of the maintenance for. ### **Keep Breathing Clean Air In Your Vehicle** Many people focus on indoor air quality in their homes but don’t think about the air quality in their vehicles. If you spend a lot of time in your vehicle every day, it’s important to stay on top of changing your cabin air filter so you can continue breathing clean air. There are a lot of pollutants and allergens in the environment, and simply changing your cabin air filter regularly can keep those things out of your vehicle as much as possible. When you bring your vehicle to DeBoer’s Auto, we will inspect your cabin air filter and advise you of the condition and whether it’s time for a replacement. You can then decide whether it’s something you want to change while we have it at the shop or if you want to wait.
