Now that most of the leaves are down and it's been cooler, Mom and Dad have been finding a whole lot more ticks on me these days from my playtime in the yard. Like any fun loving pup, I really enjoy romping in the leaves. When it gets cooler, ticks are even more eager to hitch a ride on us warmblooded species because they are seeking warmth as much as they are seeking a food source. They also love to hang out in the leaf piles that are all over the place right now. Some people become a little complacent about tick prevention after the summer is over but please don't forget about these horrible little creatures and the diseases they carry. Please continue to dress appropriately, apply repellents and check yourself, your kids (nonfurry and furry) after outdoor activities throughout the Fall season!
While the Fall does unfortunately mean increased warfare with the tick population, it fortunately equates to excellent food made with our county's wonderful harvest bounty. We have been cozying up more in the house with some great meals this Fall season now that the colder temperatures have settled in. Mom loves to cook and Dad loves to eat, so it's one certainly one of the things that makes them a perfect pair. One of their favorite seasonal soups is a pumpkin and black bean soup that makes use of the great all-time Fall favorite, the pumpkin! Mom cooks this up regularly using cans of pumpkin puree but you could certainly use some of those pumpkins you're not going to use for Fall decor anymore. Mom adds about 3/4 cup of quinoa to this recipe so she has to add an extra cup of vegetable broth (this uses a whole 32 oz. box at once, which Mom always likes so that she doesn't end up with partial boxes of broth in the fridge). The quinoa also adds some protein that Mom and Dad certainly need so that they can keep up with me!
When the weather gets rougher around here, we watch a little more TV and I would highly recommend the NatGeo channel as a place to get some super great content, like this ram battle I was able to catch this past weekend. As you can see, I was totally enthralled.
