Summer is here, and so is the call of the wild! Whether you're heading to a scenic campsite, tackling off-road trails, or just venturing out for a weekend away, one thing’s for sure—your vehicle needs to be just as ready as you are.At DeBoer’s Auto, we love adventure. But we also know that nothing puts a damper on your outdoor plans like car trouble in the middle of nowhere. That’s why we’ve pulled together these essential tips to help you prep your ride before you hit the road less traveled.

 Start with Your Tires
Your tires are your first defense against the rugged unknown.
Check your tread and pressure—off-road terrain and fully packed vehicles can add extra stress.
Inspect for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear—especially if your vehicle’s been sitting for a while.
Consider upgrading to all-terrain tires if your adventures regularly take you off paved roads.
Don’t forget the spare! Make sure it’s in good shape and easily accessible.

Check Fluids and Filters
Off-roading and long drives can push your engine harder than normal.
Top off or replace your engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and washer fluid.
A clean air filter is crucial if you’ll be driving in dusty areas—your engine will thank you!

Test the Battery
Heat, humidity, and vibration are a battery’s worst enemies—common factors during outdoor excursions.
Get your battery tested for charge and condition.
Make sure the terminals are clean and corrosion-free.
Pack a jump starter or jumper cables just in case.

Inspect Brakes and Suspension
Uneven roads, extra cargo, and long descents all make healthy brakes a must.
Listen for squeaks, grinding, or pulling to one side—these are red flags.
Check for signs of worn shocks or struts, especially if your ride feels extra bouncy or unstable.

Build a Basic Emergency Kit
Mother Nature doesn’t always play nice—be ready!

Jumper cables or a portable jump starter
Tire repair kit and air pump
Flashlight, tools, and duct tape
First aid kit, drinking water, snacks
Traction aids like boards or sand ladders if you're heading way off-road

Schedule a Pre-Trip Check
