Mussels Fra Diavolo with Spicy Tomato Wine Sauce

By Heidi Robertson on Apr 24, 2025 11:45:00 AM

A Bold and Delicious Seafood Dish That Even Won Over My Picky Taste Buds
Well, the day has come that has made my husband so very happy.
I’ve grown a lot in the eating department. I used to avoid anything green—iceberg lettuce was my only safe leaf. Mushrooms? Fine. Fish? Nope. And mayo? That was a hard, permanent no. For years, I stood firm on that.

Until recently, I tried a steamed clam. My husband practically did a happy dance in the kitchen. But when he asked if mussels were next, it was still a “no”—and mayo? Still a “hell no.”

Egg White Pita Delight

By Heidi Robertson on Apr 3, 2025 11:45:00 AM

A Diner-Inspired Breakfast You Can Make at Home
I’ll be the first to admit—I’m not exactly the one in the kitchen whipping up gourmet meals. Breakfast is usually something we grab on the go, because let’s be honest, even eggs and toast just taste better when they come with a side of something crispy and golden. And of course, home fries are always a bonus.
Living in diner heaven—New Jersey—I rarely find a breakfast that doesn’t hit the spot, but on a recent trip to Norwalk, CT, I ordered something that surprised me. It was simple: egg whites, spinach, feta, and fresh tomatoes tucked into a warm pita—but it was absolutely delicious. So much so that I decided to recreate it at home. And you know what? I didn’t miss the home fries or meat one bit.
If you’re looking for a light yet satisfying breakfast with a Mediterranean twist, you’ll love this Mediterranean Egg White Pita Delight. Here’s how to make it! ⬇️ 🍳🥙✨

Homemade Spinach-Ricotta Calzone

By Heidi Robertson on Feb 20, 2025 12:53:12 PM

A Crispy, Cheesy Twist on a food-filled memory

I have so many great memories of going to our favorite pizza joint, Jolly’s in Franklin, when I was growing up. It was a staple for us, and every Monday after food shopping, my dad would take me there. He always had coins for the jukebox, and we’d have the best conversations while waiting for our food. Their fried calzones were absolutely amazing!

These days, I don’t eat too much fried food, but every now and then, my hubby goes on a quest for the perfect dough. That’s how we stumbled upon this calzone recipe—and it quickly became a new favorite in our house! Though it’s not fried, it checks all the boxes for a delicious, comforting meal.

Warm Up with Navy Bean Soup

By Heidi Robertson on Jan 16, 2025 5:41:38 PM

Well, the New Year is here, and it looks like the cold is here to stay. But if you ask me, the best way to warm up is from the inside out—whether it’s a cup of steaming hot tea, piping hot bread fresh from the oven, or a hearty bowl of homemade soup. There’s something magical about the smell of a pot bubbling on the stove that makes everything instantly cozier.

Lucky for me, my better half has a knack for cooking, and he enjoys the challenge of whipping up something amazing with what’s already in the kitchen. After our New Year’s Day ham dinner, he turned the leftover ham bone into this comforting Navy Bean and Ham Soup star.

Cookies of Nostalgia: A Sweet Tradition

By Heidi Robertson on Dec 23, 2024 2:38:58 PM

These almond lace cookies hold a special place in my heart, and I’d love to share their story with you! It all started when my dear friend and I were reminiscing about Christmas. She shared a lovely memory of how her mom would always make a special trip to a bakery in Kearny to pick up her favorite cookies. Curiosity got the better of me, and I asked her what they were and where to find the bakery. Unfortunately, she told me that the bakery had long since closed its doors, leaving those sweet memories behind.

Apple pie for the win!

By Heidi Robertson on Sep 19, 2024 11:54:07 AM

Don't you just love this time of year? The crisp mornings and the fall colors. We love to do our annual tradition of apple picking and selecting pumpkins and mums for decorations. Then home to start the bake-off. Well actually, my sister started days ago with cookies and favorites of the crowd, but we like to make a couple of apple pies with our selections from the morning's adventure. This recipe is a favorite, but we do a few variations just to keep it interesting. We break for dinner while the pies finish off and fill the house with an amazing aroma. Then forks up! But, don't even think about forgetting a scoop of ice cream on top!

Ingredients
Pie:
1 unbaked pie crust
3 large or 4-5 small Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
½ cup heavy cream
2 tsp vanilla extract
⅛ tsp cinnamon
Ice cream
