Key Lime Pie Revelation

By Heidi Robertson on May 28, 2026 1:15:01 PM

When I lived in Southern Florida, I stayed with my aunt while I was attending college. She was the best, and we got along famously; I still carry some of her jaded and sarcastic traits, which I attribute to her influence. Every once in a while, for a special occasion, we would visit my uncle’s favorite spot—a charming, slightly fancy restaurant right on the ocean. I remember it being called Charley Brown’s, on Hillsboro Beach, though I don’t believe it was the famous chain. It was there that I discovered baby back ribs—and oh, they were delicious! For dessert, everyone ordered key lime pie. I was hesitant since I had never tried it before, but following my family’s lead, I decided to give it a try. Oh my goodness—it was a literal revelation, something worth writing home to New Jersey about! I’ve had it a few times since then in the Keys and Charleston, SC, and when it’s done right, it is truly a delight. Here is a recipe I found with the help of my husband and the wonderful web. Let me know what you think!

Mother’s Day Fancy Ciabatta

By Heidi Robertson on Apr 30, 2026 1:45:01 PM

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and I’ve been doing some thinking. Usually, the hubby likes to go all out and "up the game," but this year I’m looking to take the bulk of the work off his plate. The weather has finally turned, which means the grass needs mowing (yadda yadda), and honestly, nobody wants to be stuck inside hovering over a stove for four hours.

Blackberry and Pear Crescent Bars

By Heidi Robertson on Apr 2, 2026 11:30:00 AM

Berries are finally showing up at (almost) reasonable prices again, which means I’ve been grabbing blackberries every time I hit the produce aisle.

Most mornings, I’ll sit down at my desk with a container and—poof—they’re gone. (Yes, the small one… but let’s be honest, I could easily put away the quart.)

I started digging around for a new recipe to mix things up a bit.

Game Day Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe

By Heidi Robertson on Feb 5, 2026 11:44:59 AM

So, yeah — the big day is here. The one where y’all are glued to the screen, double-checking your squares and hoping your box hits for a big payoff. We’re not the biggest football fans in my house, but on this day, we make it somewhat of a priority. Mostly because… snacks. And really, who doesn’t love the snacks?

Comfort in a Bowl: My Hubby’s Chicken and Dumplings

By Heidi Robertson on Jan 15, 2026 12:45:00 PM

This time of year, when germs are running rampant, the classic "cure-all" is usually a pot of chicken soup. Now, don’t get me wrong—I’d never turn down a steaming bowl of tasty soup—but when I’m really feeling under the weather, my ultimate "make-me-feel-better" meal is Chicken and Dumplings.
It’s more than just a physical fix; it’s a soul-lifter. Somehow, when I’m down, my husband just knows this is the dish that will pick up my spirits. I actually didn’t grow up eating this, but years ago, when I lived with my Aunt in Florida, she made it for me once and I was hooked.

Low-Carb Sausage & Egg Breakfast Muffins

By Heidi Robertson on Dec 23, 2025 11:30:00 AM

Make-ahead mornings just got easier.
I love having breakfast in—but between meetings, packed schedules, and mornings that start faster than my coffee kicks in, it doesn’t always happen. That’s where make-ahead breakfasts come in clutch, and these low-carb sausage and egg breakfast muffins have quickly become a favorite.

Thanksgiving Leftovers = Turkey Pie

Turning Thanksgiving Leftovers Into Something Truly Crave-Worthy

It’s that time of year again—when everything kicks into high gear. Cooking. Baking. Decorating. Shopping. You name it, it’s happening. It feels like a happy little tornado whirling through the house, swirling with cinnamon, pine, wrapping paper, and the occasional moment of “Wait… what day is it?!”

Loaded Baked Potato Soup with a Smoky Twist

By Heidi Robertson on Oct 14, 2025 12:30:00 PM

I love when the weather turns — the mornings are crisp, the kind where you grab that first cup of coffee just to wrap your hands around something warm. Out come the comfy sweaters and the warm-but-still-fashionable boots from the back of the closet. Suddenly, my appetite shifts too — I start craving comfort in a bowl.

The fresh salads and veggies from our summer garden are gone (and yes, I do miss them!), but they’re replaced with cravings for hearty soups and cozy stews. Potatoes are like the answer to everything. Mashed, baked, roasted, or turned into crispy home fries — I’ll take them any way they come.

Apple Foldovers for Apple-Picking Season 🍎🥧

By Heidi Robertson on Sep 30, 2025 11:45:01 AM

There’s something about apple-picking season that feels like a fresh start. The air gets crisp, the leaves crunch underfoot, and suddenly pumpkin-spiced everything is everywhere. But for my family, autumn always meant apples first.

Every year, my siblings and I would gather our families and head to the orchards. Depending on whose house was hosting the post-picking feast, we’d pile into cars and make our way either to Sussex County and Warwick, NY—or sometimes down to Hunterdon County. We started this tradition when my nieces were just little ones, and now they’re off creating their own memories with friends and families.

For me, it’s always been about the laughter between the trees, the apple-stained fingers, and that inevitable taste-test right there in the orchard. And of course—the baking.

🌶 Stuffed Poblano Peppers with Sweet Corn & Chorizo

By Heidi Robertson on Sep 2, 2025 11:45:00 AM

Late-Summer Harvest… with a Side of Torch Drama

Little Miss Black Thumb here, chiming in after swiping the hubby’s garden haul. He’s always successful with peppers (me, not so much), and the poblanos that I once snubbed my nose at are sitting pretty in the basket, along with a handful of cherry tomatoes. On my way back inside, I even swiped a bulb of garlic he had drying.
