With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, we’re embracing all things festive—green, cheerful, and of course, delicious! This time of year is all about celebrating heritage, enjoying time with loved ones, and indulging in the kind of comfort food that brings people together. At the shop, we recently found out that our amazing service advisor, Courtney, has a hidden talent… she makes a mean Irish Soda Bread—and not just any version. We're talking legendary status.
We managed to sweet-talk her into sharing her family-favorite recipe, and we're so excited to pass it along to you. Whether you're hosting a St. Paddy’s Day gathering, heading to a parade, or just looking for something cozy to bake this weekend, this recipe promises to hit the spot.
As for me, I haven’t tasted it yet—but Courtney promised I’d be getting my very own loaf. (Fingers crossed she’s good on her word!)
🍞 Irish Soda Bread
Ingredients
4 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
1 cup raisins
1 stick butter, melted
Sugar to sprinkle on top
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Measure all ingredients and place them into a large bowl. Mix well.
Spray a round baking pan (8" or 9" will do). If you don't have one, just shape the dough on a cookie sheet.
Place the dough into the pan.
Sprinkle the top with sugar.
Place into the preheated oven and bake for approximately 1 hour. Insert a toothpick or cake tester into the center to check to see if it is done. The toothpick should come out clean with no dough on it.
We’d love to hear how your soda bread turns out—or if you have a favorite St. Patrick’s Day recipe that’s a tradition in your home. Tag us in your photos or drop your recipe in the comments. If you have a family favorite recipe that you would like to share, we would love to try it.
Thanks Courtney, for handing over this gem. Happy baking and Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us here at DeBoer’s! 💚
