My Favorite Family Recipe

My father owned a bakery in the Netherlands. Almond is always a winning ingredient with the Dutch, and his almond bars were no exception as one of his customers' (and his family’s) favorites.

After he immigrated to America in 1949, we had a part-time bakery in our home. Soon the almond bar recipe became a hit in the U.S., as well. His almond bar legacy continues as we make and enjoy their buttery, warm goodness for special events and family gatherings to this day.

Stir into crumbling mix. Save 1 cup for top. Pat remaining into 9x13" greased pan.

1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 cup almond paste

Mix well till not lumpy. Spread in pan. Sprinkle 1 cup crumbs over top. Bake @ 350°  for 35-40 minutes.
