When Zach joined DeBoer’s Auto eight months ago as a Quality Control Technician, he quickly became the guy you’d notice in the parking lot, tablet in hand, meticulously documenting every vehicle that came in. His role is straightforward but essential: ensuring every car leaves better than it arrived. From photographing vehicles during intake to verifying completed work before they’re returned to customers, Zach’s dedication to precision underpins the high standards at DeBoer’s Auto.
The Daily Grind of Quality Control
A typical day for Zach is anything but stationary. He’s constantly moving, coordinating with service advisors, checking schedules, and prioritizing tasks for efficiency—especially for customers waiting on-site. “I like to take my time,” Zach says, acknowledging that rushing through such a detail-oriented role can lead to mistakes. His meticulousness ensures that technicians have all the information they need to hit the ground running, whether it’s a photo of a scuff on a bumper or diagnostic trouble codes stored in a vehicle’s system.
One standout moment came when Zach, just about to leave for the day, noticed smoke coming from under the hood of a Jeep that had just undergone repairs. Acting quickly, he grabbed a colleague, and they managed to address the issue before it escalated. “It’s about being aware of your surroundings,” Zach reflects.
A Lifelong Passion for Cars
Zach’s love for cars started in middle school, standing around a friend’s dad’s old Camaro and dreaming of restoring it. His passion truly ignited in adulthood, beginning with small repairs on his Scion tC and eventually transforming his Mazda Miata into a drift car. “I’ve touched everything on that car,” he says proudly.
This hands-on experience shapes his approach to quality control. He treats each customer’s vehicle as if it were his own, bringing the same level of care and thoroughness to every inspection.
Beyond the Garage
Outside of work, Zach cultivates a garden where he grows everything from pumpkins to garlic. “Fresh garlic is amazing—it keeps so well if you cure it right,” he shares. He’s also an avid cook, frequently whipping up meals for friends.
But perhaps his most surprising hobby? He’s been in a band for over six years, wearing multiple hats from playing synthesizer to mixing and producing their music. “We’re super DIY,” he explains. “For our last album, my friend and I taught ourselves how to record and produce everything from scratch.”
A Team That Feels Like Family
What Zach appreciates most about DeBoer’s Auto is the supportive team environment. “Everyone’s so nice and willing to help. If you need something, someone will stop what they’re doing to lend a hand,” he says.
Zach’s story is a testament to his passion for precision, his love for cars, and his commitment to teamwork. At DeBoer’s Auto, he’s found a role that not only leverages his skills but also fuels his enthusiasm for vehicles and problem-solving. Whether he’s in the parking lot with a tablet or in his garage at home, Zach embodies the meticulous care and dedication that make DeBoer’s Auto stand out.
Live life uninterrupted.
