🍂 October Is Car Care Awareness Month (Yes, Again!)

Here's Why That Matters
You might be wondering, “Didn’t we already do Car Care Awareness Month?” And you’d be right—we did celebrate it back in April. But here's the twist: Car Care Awareness Month happens twice a year—once in the spring and again in the fall. And there's a really good reason for that.
At DeBoer’s Auto, we like to think of these months as your car’s version of a seasonal check-up. Just like we take care of ourselves differently in summer vs. winter, our vehicles need attention based on the time of year. So as we roll into October, we're diving into round two—and it's all about getting you and your vehicle ready for colder weather, shorter days, and everything else fall and winter have in store.

Why April and October?
Here’s the deal. In April, we’re shaking off the effects of winter—road salt, potholes, freezing temps—and making sure your car is road-trip ready for summer. But by the time October hits, we’re on the edge of a whole new set of challenges.

Think freezing mornings, icy roads, and maybe even snow depending on where you live. It’s the perfect time to check in on your battery (cold weather is brutal on weak ones), swap out worn wiper blades, and make sure your heating system is working before you actually need it.

The Car Care Council—the folks who created this national campaign—designed it this way for a reason. April gives folks in warmer climates a heads-up before the heat. October helps those of us in colder regions get ahead of winter. Together, they offer two chances every year to stop, take a breath, and make sure your car is in good shape.

What Makes October So Important?
October is like your last chance to catch anything before winter sets in. It's the time to make sure your tires have enough tread, your fluids are all topped off (especially antifreeze), and that your brakes are up to the job of slick, wet roads. It’s also smart to check things like your defroster and windshield washer fluid now—because once that first icy morning hits, you’ll definitely want those in working order.

And while we’re at it, this is a great time to put together or refresh your winter emergency kit. We’re talking about basics like a blanket, flashlight, jumper cables, and some snacks—because nobody wants to be stuck on the side of the road in 30-degree weather without them.

We’ve Got Your Back
At DeBoer’s, we’re using October to help you get ahead of the game. Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing tips, videos, and service specials to make it easier than ever to keep your vehicle safe and reliable—whether you’re commuting to work or heading out for a weekend leaf-peeping trip.

Not sure where to start? Come in for a fall inspection. We’ll take a look at the essentials, give you a rundown of what’s good to go, and flag anything that might need a little attention. No pressure, no upsell—just honest insight to help you stay safe on the road.

Your Car Takes Care of You—Let’s Return the Favor
We get it. Life is busy, and car maintenance doesn’t always make it to the top of the list. But a little attention now can save you a lot of time, stress, and money down the road.

So here’s your reminder: October is Car Care Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect opportunity to show your vehicle a little love before the cold sets in.
