DeBoer's Auto, Inc. was established in 1982, by Bill DeBoer, Sr. as a used car dealership/body shop and was originally located in Newton, NJ. Prior to opening his own business, Bill Sr. worked for 13 years at the Ford Mahwah plant, assembling cars until the plant closed. In 1985, Bill and his wife Rita purchased the current location in Hamburg and have been serving the community there ever since.In 1997, Bill was joined by his son Bill DeBoer Jr. who had recently graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Management. Bill Jr. found enjoyment in auto repair and so it was decided to expand the business into a repair facility.In recent years, the building has undergone renovations and the vehicle repair equipment has been upgraded with the latest technology to enhance the shop facilities. The company is constantly in the process of updating equipment, expanding services and training personnel to meet current and future customer requirements.
William DeBoer (Bill Sr.) is the founder of DeBoer’s Auto, Inc. and carries the title of President. He immigrated to America from Holland with his parents at the age of two. He grew up fascinated by cars which lead him to the pastime of drag racing and a career assembling cars for 13 years at Ford Motor Company. After the closing of the assembly plant and turning down options to relocate, Bill Sr. started DeBoer’s Auto in Newton, NJ in 1982. It was originally opened as a body shop/independent car dealer. After three successful years, Bill Sr. made the decision to buy his own business in Hamburg, NJ to continue selling used cars and trucks, discontinuing the body shop. Bill Sr. ran the business through its ups and downs of the economy and utilized the three bay garages that his new location provided to service vehicles for his per-owned customers. After Bill Jr. graduated from college, they worked on increasing the service business and it became the full service repair shop it is today. Bill Sr. is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and has volunteered in that capacity on the Wantage Township first aid squad for over 18 years. He also was awarded the Paul Harris Award by Rotary international.
William J. DeBoer (Bill Jr.) is a co-owner in DeBoer’s Auto, Inc. and carries the title of Vice President/General Manager for day to day operation. He obtained an associate’s degree in business administration and a certificate in automotive technology from the County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ. After obtaining those degrees, Bill Jr. went on to the Pennsylvania State University and earned a bachelors degree in business management from the Smeal College of Business. In addition to those credentials, he is also an ASE master certified technician, L1 Advance Engine Performance, ASE parts, Service Advisor and Under Car Specialist. Bill Jr. received the prestigious Certified Master Dealer (CMD) designation from the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA). He has grown up in the business his father started and has been working full-time since graduating college for over 12 years. Bill Jr. is also a volunteer Ski Patrol at the local ski mountain.
