Sector : AgricultureCountry : Peru
Town : Tarma
Loan Amount : $1,075
Marco, 23, is single. He lives with his mother, Valentina, 63, and with 2 of his 4 siblings: Marcos, 25 and Elizabeth, 20. They rent their house, which is in a pleasant town far from the city in the Peruvian mountains. He has been a farmer for the past 5 years; he grows potato, corn, peas and gladioli in several different colors. He owns his fields so he cares for them with much dedication and sacrifice in order to obtain good crops. Marco also buys about-to-be-harvested choclo (corn) crops and flowers to sell at market. His siblings Marcos and Elizabeth are his always-reliable helpers because they, too, want to provide their mother with a peaceful old-age. In addition, they plan to form their own families so they work hard to get ahead. What Marco likes best about his work is selling the products he grows because they produce good profits. As he, himself, states: “I have farming in my blood and in my memories, from that past time when my father taught me to love crops.” In the future, he would like to open a flower shop in a centrally-located place in the city to sell flowers daily in all their various varieties and colors. This is his first loan with MFP and he pledges to repay on time because he is grateful for the trust placed in him. Besides, he wants to have savings in order to reach his goals because by then he will have his own family. With the money requested, he will buy fields-worth of about-to-be harvested corn and flowers to sell in his city’s and the capital’s markets.
